Ecotourism

The rich biodiversity of the Specially Protected Natural Areas (SPNAs) of the Republic of Armenia, the diversity of picturesque landscape types, the natural and historical heritage, and the abundance of historical and cultural monuments create favourable conditions for the development of various forms of tourism, including combined tours and hiking routes.
The preferred forms of tourism include ecotourism, ethnotourism, agrotourism, historical, cultural and scientific tourism, as well as sports tourism, which may be combined with wildlife watching, birdwatching and other nature-based tourism activities.
Ecotourism is environmentally responsible travel aimed at experiencing and studying natural and cultural attractions, particularly in relatively undisturbed natural areas. It contributes to environmental conservation, minimizes negative environmental impact, promotes active socio-economic participation of local communities, and ensures that benefits from tourism activities accrue to them.
In order to promote the conservation and sustainable use of natural ecosystems, including Specially Protected Natural Areas (hereinafter referred to as SPNAs), to enhance the use of tourism resources, raise awareness of ecological standards, and support the development of ecotourism, the Ministry of Nature Protection of the Republic of Armenia established an Ecotourism Information Center at the State Museum of Nature of Armenia.
The Ecotourism Information Center offers visitors the opportunity to explore picturesque locations within Armenia’s protected areas, experience their unique natural features, observe diverse representatives of local flora and fauna from designated observation points, and engage with local communities to learn about their lifestyle and traditions, as well as enjoy locally produced, environmentally friendly food.
