Workshop on Preparations for COP17 Presidency Held

From 27 to 28 April, at the Meridian Expo and Events Center, the Ministry of Environment of the RA, in cooperation with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, held a two-day workshop entitled “Biodiversity Incentives and Finance: Armenia in the Context of Preparing for the Presidency of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity.”
The workshop aimed to raise awareness among negotiators and strengthen their capacities in the lead-up to the COP17, including through the presentation of OECD analytical findings. Discussions focused on economic instruments for biodiversity conservation, effective management of financial flows, and opportunities for private sector engagement.
Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, delivered opening remarks, presenting Armenia’s priorities. He emphasized that one of the key objectives of COP17 is to conduct the first global assessment of progress in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, with a view to identifying gaps and challenges. He also underlined the importance of ensuring an inclusive and transparent process based on national strategies, scientific data, and the participation of a wide range of stakeholders.
