From 5 to 7 May 2026, a global workshop on monitoring, assessment and data exchange in transboundary river basins was organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva.
The topics discussed during the workshop were directly related to the activities of the “Armhydromet” SNCO of the Ministry of Environment of the RA. The event served as an important platform for presenting the results of Armenian-Georgian cooperation to international partners and participating in professional discussions.
Within the framework of the workshop, Lilit Abrahamyan, Head of the Water Policy Department of the Ministry of Environment of the RA, delivered a presentation on cooperation between Armenia and Georgia in the Khrami-Debed transboundary river basin. She also referred to the memorandum of cooperation signed between the “Armhydromet” SNCO and the National Environmental Agency of Georgia, describing it as an important step toward strengthening transboundary cooperation and ensuring effective management of the river basin.
It was emphasized that the signing of the memorandum represents an important step in deepening transboundary cooperation between Armenia and Georgia and ensuring effective joint management of the Khrami-Debed river basin.
Representatives of the UNECE highly appreciated the progress achieved within the framework of Armenian-Georgian cooperation, emphasizing that joint monitoring of the Khrami-Debed river basin will serve as an important basis for planning effective management measures based on reliable data.
It was also noted that the cooperation will contribute to the harmonization of monitoring networks, field measurements and laboratory testing methodologies in the two countries, improve data comparability, and support the joint use of technical formats for data exchange.
