A UN flag-raising ceremony was held at the Meridian Expo Center ahead of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.
Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA    ; Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity; Françoise Jacob, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, and representatives of government agencies and international organisations attended the ceremony. The raising of the UN flag marks an important milestone in the preparations for the conference and highlights the cooperation between Armenia, as the host country, and the United Nations in advancing the international biodiversity agenda.
From 19 to 30 October, Yerevan will host COP17, bringing together delegations from various countries, representatives of international organisations and civil society to assess progress in biodiversity protection and discuss future joint action.
During the conference, the procedures and security protocols established for UN conferences will be in effect in the Blue Zone at the Meridian Expo Center.
