Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan Received Fabrizio Zarcone, Newly Appointed World Bank Country Manager for Armenia

Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, received Fabrizio Zarcone, newly appointed World Bank Country Manager for Armenia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of priority areas of cooperation aimed at strengthening Armenia’s environmental agenda and enhancing community resilience. Particular reference was made to the “RESILAND: Armenia Resilient Landscapes” programme, which seeks to improve the management of forests and wetlands in Lori, Syunik, Ararat and Gegharkunik Provinces through the promotion of community participation and co-management mechanisms.
The parties also discussed priority actions planned for 2026. Separate attention was given to the issues of ecological remediation and redevelopment planning of the Nairit plant site, emphasizing the importance of establishing clear institutional arrangements to reduce public health and safety risks.
The Minister and the World Bank representative also discussed the preparatory process for COP17 to be held in Armenia, including potential avenues for World Bank support. These include the provision of expert assistance, support for awareness-raising and communication activities, and engagement in certain organizational processes.
Minister Matevosyan reaffirmed his readiness to continue and deepen cooperation with the World Bank in order to enhance the effectiveness of programmes and ensure the alignment of shared priorities.
