Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan Met with Natia Natsvlishvili

Hambardzum Matevosyan met with Natia Natsvlishvili, Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Armenia, to discuss progress in cooperation and upcoming programmes.
During the meeting, the parties addressed preparatory work for the organization of 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17). The Minister emphasized that ensuring an inclusive and high-impact conference in Yerevan is a priority, bringing together heads of state, international organizations, the scientific community, and other stakeholders under the theme “Leaders for Nature.”
The discussion also covered progress in implementing the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, expanding access to financial resources, and deepening sectoral cooperation.
Particular attention was given to ongoing and planned joint programmes with UNDP. In this context, the Minister noted that long-term effective cooperation has contributed to the implementation of international obligations, as well as the development of sectoral legislation and governance systems.
The sides also discussed new initiatives, including regional programmes under the Global Environment Facility (GEF-9), as well as potential cooperation with the Climate Adaptation Fund, aimed at reducing forest fire risks and improving water resources management efficiency.
The Minister reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to continue and deepen cooperation with UNDP in support of environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and the promotion of the green development agenda.
