Meeting with Representatives of Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations

Today, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RA, Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, met with representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in the Republic of Armenia to present the progress of the preparatory work for the COP17.
This was the second meeting held in this format, providing an opportunity to continue an open, inclusive and effective dialogue with partners.
Minister Matevosyan presented the work carried out to date and outlined the upcoming steps, emphasizing that Armenia is fully committed to organizing the conference in line with the principles of transparency, inclusive participation and high ambition. He noted that the Ministry’s goal is to make COP17 a turning point in the global agenda for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
In this context, the Minister also addressed recent international and legislative developments, including the outcomes of meetings held in Montreal and the ratification of the Nagoya Protocol, which lay an important foundation for the successful organization of the conference.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Robert Abisoghomonyan highlighted the role of the Leaders’ Summit preceding COP17 as a platform for strengthening high-level political commitment.
The preparatory work for COP17 was also presented in detail, and a video dedicated to the conference’s logo was screened.
The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session.
COP17 is expected to serve as a platform for strengthening the transition from commitments to concrete actions for nature conservation. Armenia stands ready to cooperate closely with all partners to ensure that the outcomes of the conference are tangible and effective.
