June 19, 2026
The legislative package on specially protected natural areas received a positive conclusion. At its session on 18 June, the NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environmental Protection discussed the package in the second reading and issued a positive conclusion on the draft amendments and additions to the law on “Specially Protected Natural Areas” and related legislation.
The draft law envisages large-scale sectoral reforms aimed at clarifying legal relations concerning the establishment, protection, use, and management of specially protected areas of nature.
Ara Mkrtchyan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, noted that the Law on “Specially Protected Natural Areas” is being presented in a completely new version. He also informed that no proposals had been submitted to the draft between the first and second readings.
