February 27, 2026
The first session of the Public Council formed under the Minister of Environment of the RA was held.
The Council, comprising approximately three dozen members, brings together individuals engaged in environmental protection issues, as well as representatives of environmental non-governmental organizations, initiative groups, and the expert community.
Prior to the start of the session, Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan thanked the members for their participation in the Council, emphasizing that addressing sectoral challenges is a shared priority and that effective solutions can be achieved only through cooperation.
The objective of this platform is to ensure open, professional, and reliable cooperation between the state, civil society, the private sector, the scientific and educational community, and active citizens.
A brief overview was presented regarding the ministry’s planned activities for the year, in line with the Government’s five-year programme of activities. The participants also discussed the preparatory process for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17), to be held in Armenia in 2026, which currently occupies a central place on the ministry’s agenda.
The session was not limited to agenda items alone. An active question-and-answer discussion was held on key sectoral issues. The Minister responded to questions raised by the participants and emphasized the importance of ensuring that future meetings yield concrete results and measurable progress.
Concluding the session, the Minister stated:
“I am confident that the work of this Council can serve as a strong example of trust and effectiveness, where each participant’s contribution has a tangible impact, and proposals and observations lead to more balanced decisions grounded in facts, science, practical experience, and the public interest.”
