EU Water Framework Directive Monitoring Workshop Held

From 22 to 23 April, under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Environment of the RA and with the support of the EU4Green Recovery East programme, a joint workshop of the EU Water Framework Directive Monitoring Coordination Platform and its thematic groups was held.
Lilit Abrahamyan, Head of the Water Policy Department of the Ministry of Environment of the RA, and Levon Azizyan, Director of the “Armhydromet” SNCO delivered opening remarks. In welcoming participants, they emphasized the importance of continued support from European Union partners in developing a monitoring system in Armenia aligned with the principles and approaches of the EU Water Framework Directive.
The workshop brings together representatives of water sector stakeholders, research and educational institutions, independent experts, as well as international organizations and programmes operating in the water sector.
The main objective of the workshop is to develop a roadmap for improving surface and groundwater monitoring, as well as data management and accountability practices, taking into account Armenia’s commitments under the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. Participants will also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Austria’s experience in implementing the EU Water Framework Directive.
