Today, the National Assembly adopted the draft law “On Ratification of the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity”, with 94 votes in favour and 2 abstentions.
The Protocol aims to ensure the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources, which is essential for the responsible management of the country’s natural resources.
In 2026, Yerevan will host the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention (COP17) and will assume the presidency of the Convention processes for a two-year term. Following ratification, it is also planned to convene a meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol within the framework of COP17.
