Communities to Be Granted the Right to Manage Protected Areas
May 11, 2026
The Government has approved amendments to the Law "On Specially Protected Natural Areas".
The key innovation is the introduction of a fifth category, which will allow communities to manage protected areas without transferring them to state ownership. In addition, the law introduces regulations for the designation of areas important for biodiversity, including ornithological and botanical areas.
Two new protected areas are planned to be established by 2030.
