Strengthening State Control in the Environmental Sector

May 18, 2026

In recent years, the Government has been implementing a consistent policy aimed at protecting public interests and restoring state rights through the review of the legal status of forest and environmental lands transferred to the private sector years ago. This process is of significant importance for the protection of Armenia’s natural resources and the strengthening of state oversight.
As a result of cooperation among the Ministry of Environment of the RA, the Prosecutor General’ Office of the RA, local self-government bodies and other state agencies, more than 13,000 hectares of forest and environmental lands were returned to the state in 2025.
In particular, 5,330 hectares of land were recovered from private ownership and incorporated into “Khosrov Forest” State Reserve. This represents an important step toward the restoration of specially protected natural areas, the conservation of biodiversity and the strengthening of environmental security.
