Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan Participated in the Working Session on “Strengthening Biodiversity Conservation and Financing”

Within the framework of the G7 Environment Ministers’ Meeting in Paris, Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan participated in the working session titled “Strengthening Biodiversity Conservation and Financing,” where he addressed current challenges related to financing biodiversity conservation.
“Both public and private financial resources remain insufficient, and the financing system lacks coordination,” the Minister noted.
Hambardzum Matevosyan emphasized the importance of integrating biodiversity financing across all sectors of public policy, as well as the need to utilize diverse financial instruments and innovative mechanisms. At the same time, he highlighted the importance of establishing the necessary conditions for the active engagement of the private sector through common standards and clear regulatory frameworks.
The Minister also underscored the need for a fair and inclusive approach, noting that financial flows should be accessible to local communities.
As the country set to host the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), the Minister reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to support the deepening of international cooperation and the development of effective biodiversity financing mechanisms.
In conclusion, Hambardzum Matevosyan emphasized that COP17 can serve not only as a platform for discussions, but also a starting point for concrete action.
