Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan Met with Kaveh Zahedi

Within the framework of the Yerevan Dialogue, Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan also met with Kaveh Zahedi, Director of the Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current agenda of Armenia-FAO cooperation and opportunities for its expansion, particularly in the context of the preparatory processes for COP17.
The Minister highly appreciated FAO’s continuous support for programmes aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, strengthening food security, and improving sectoral policy and institutional frameworks.
He also referred to the close interdependence between agriculture and biodiversity, emphasizing the importance of sustainable natural resource management and ecosystem protection.
The Minister noted that the agreement on the “Support the Establishment of a National Forest Monitoring and Assessment System in Armenia” project was recently signed, describing it as an important step toward the effective management of forest resources and the development of evidence-based policies.
He reaffirmed that the upcoming COP17 provides a valuable opportunity to jointly develop practical and results-based initiatives aimed at biodiversity conservation and addressing climate challenges.
The Minister also noted that COP17 will serve as an important platform for making cooperation with international partners more practical and for developing new biodiversity conservation initiatives.
