During his meeting with Kim Sungwhan, Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment of the Republic of Korea, Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan discussed opportunities to expand Armenia–Korea cooperation in the fields of environmental protection, climate change, water resources management, and biodiversity conservation.
During the meeting, Minister Matevosyan presented Armenia’s priorities, emphasizing that, in the context of climate change, the country’s key priorities include the effective management of water resources, the development of flood forecasting and early warning systems, integrated river basin management, and ecosystem restoration.
The Minister was also briefed on the Republic of Korea’s experience in applying artificial intelligence and digital technologies to flood forecasting, water resources management, and enhancing climate resilience. The parties agreed that the exchange of experience and professional cooperation in these areas could make an important contribution to strengthening Armenia’s capacities.
As the COP17 Presidency, the Minister thanked the Republic of Korea for its active engagement under the Convention on Biological Diversity and extended an invitation to participate in COP17 in Yerevan.
“I am confident that this meeting will give new impetus to Armenia–Korea environmental cooperation and contribute to the implementation of joint programmes for the benefit of climate resilience, sustainable water resources management, and biodiversity conservation,” Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan noted.
