Minister Continues to Participate in High-Level Programme in Oslo

At the Fridtjof Nansen Institute (FNI) in Oslo, Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan continues to participate in a high-level professional programme focused on global biodiversity governance, climate policy and current challenges in international environmental negotiations.
The day’s discussions focused on deepening knowledge and reviewing international experience, providing an opportunity to become acquainted with successful approaches applied by different countries and relevant policy instruments. In particular, the experience of organizing COP21 in France was presented as an example of effective strategic leadership in multilateral climate negotiations.
Discussions also covered the enhanced role of indigenous peoples in international processes, developments within the SB8j platform, as well as the importance of traditional knowledge and representation in biodiversity negotiations.
Special attention was given to biodiversity financing mechanisms, Digital Sequence Information (DSI), practical aspects of implementing the Nagoya Protocol, and the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture as an important instrument for the conservation of seed diversity.
The joint project between the Fridtjof Nansen Institute and Armenia was also presented, highlighting the importance of international cooperation and knowledge exchange. Participants also discussed approaches to biodiversity management and community livelihoods in protected areas in the context of climate change and increasing tourism pressures.
At the end of the programme, participants toured the institute and familiarized themselves with its work and history. They also visited the Fridtjof Nansen Memorial, where the Minister laid flowers in tribute to the memory of the renowned humanitarian.
