The kick-off workshop of the “Fueling Green Recovery in Armenia – Advancing Forest Infrastructure and Creating Sustainable Jobs for Rural Communities” project was held. Vahe Davtyan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, heads of relevant departments of the Ministry, specialists, and representatives of the Ministry of Economy of Armenia, as well as international and non-governmental organizations took part in the workshop.
“This project is the first national programme approved by the Green Climate Fund to be implemented through the direct access modality in Armenia. This is an important step not only in terms of attracting climate finance, but also for developing national institutional capacities and strengthening Armenia’s role in the international climate agenda,” said Nona Budoyan, Head of the Climate Policy Department of the Ministry of Environment of the RA, in her remarks.
The project aims to contribute to the development of national forest-sector infrastructure while also enhancing the resilience of communities to climate change.
One of the key features of the project is its focus on the development of forest infrastructure. This includes investments in the development of nursery systems, the expansion of seedling production capacities, as well as the introduction of modern forest monitoring and management tools, with the aim of creating a solid foundation for long-term afforestation and reforestation.
