Joint Press Conference Held in Astana

Within the framework of the UN Regional Ecological Summit in Astana, a joint press conference was held under the initiative “Harmony with Nature for the Benefit of Sustainable Development of the Region”, implemented by the countries of Central Asia. Ara Mkrtchyan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, and Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity attended the event.
During the press conference, Deputy Minister Ara Mkrtchyan presented the progress and key priorities of the preparatory process for hosting the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in the Republic of Armenia.
Ara Mkrtchyan also highlighted a number of upcoming milestone events, noting that COP17 will be followed by the Nature Leaders Summit (16 October), to be held under the theme “Leaders for Nature.” The summit will bring together heads of state, representatives of international organizations, the scientific community, as well as local and indigenous peoples.
In conclusion, the Deputy Minister emphasized that COP17 should serve as a critical transition point from commitments to tangible results, reaffirming Armenia’s readiness to cooperate with all partners in advancing shared environmental goals.
