The inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee of the “EU4Biodiversity in Sevan: Enhancing Lake Sevan Ecosystem Restoration” Project was held.
During the meeting, project stakeholders, including the European Union and the Ministry of Environment of the RA, officially launched the project, which will be implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, participated in the meeting, emphasising that the project’s goal is not only the conservation of Lake Sevan, but also the restoration of the lake’s natural balance and the establishment of a management system where nature conservation and community development are mutually reinforcing.
“The future of Sevan depends on how effectively we can preserve its biodiversity, restore its fish stocks and, in particular, ensure the recovery of Sevan’s natural fish populations today,” noted Aram Meymaryan.
During the meeting, the project’s strategic directions and planned activities were discussed, and the work plan and budget for the first year were approved. The discussions also focused on ensuring the project’s effective implementation, coordinated cooperation among stakeholders, and alignment with national priorities.
“EU4Biodiversity in Sevan: Enhancing Lake Sevan Ecosystem Restoration” Project is a three-year initiative aimed at supporting the conservation and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems in the Lake Sevan basin with EU assistance.
