As part of London Climate Action Week, Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan participated in the “Finance and Nature Dialogue” and “The Road to COP17 Yerevan” high-level events.
In his opening remarks, the Minister presented Armenia’s vision as the host country and President of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.
The Minister noted that the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework has established clear goals, but their implementation will only be possible if political commitments are turned into practical action and real investment.
Minister Matevosyan emphasized that financing biodiversity conservation is one of the key challenges of our time. While public funding is important, it is not sufficient to close the biodiversity financing gap. It is therefore necessary to promote private investment, develop reliable data and accountability systems, strengthen investor confidence, and create robust portfolios of nature-positive projects.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation among governments, financial institutions, international organizations, technology companies, the private sector, local communities, and civil society, stressing that only through joint efforts will it be possible to achieve the global biodiversity goals.
The events provided an important platform for discussing the political and financial solutions needed to accelerate investment in biodiversity conservation and build strong partnerships in the lead-up to COP17 in Yerevan.
Armenia is ready to make COP17 a conference of practical outcomes and concrete action, bringing international partners together around a common goal: "Taking Action for Nature".
