Hambardzum Matevosyan Meets with Lim Sang-Sop

Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, met with Lim Sang-Seop, Minister of the Korea Forest Service, during his working visit to the Republic of Korea.
The meeting focused on forest protection and restoration, the sustainable management of forest ecosystems, biodiversity conservation, enhancing forest resilience to climate change, and opportunities to expand scientific and technological cooperation.
Minister Matevosyan noted that the Republic of Korea is one of the world's leading examples of successful forest restoration and emphasized that this experience could be of great value to Armenia in expanding forest cover, restoring degraded areas, and introducing modern forest monitoring systems.
The parties also discussed modern approaches to wildfire prevention and response, including the use of artificial intelligence, satellite observations, and drones in forest management.
The Minister emphasized the importance of exchanging experience across various areas and further strengthening professional cooperation.
He also expressed his expectation of the Republic of Korea’s active participation in COP17, noting that the conservation and restoration of forest ecosystems are among the key priorities for implementing the goals of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Hambardzum Matevosyan expressed confidence that the cooperation established between Armenia and the Republic of Korea would create new opportunities for the implementation of joint initiatives in forestry, science, innovative technologies, and biodiversity conservation.
