Deputy Minister Vahe Davtyan received Kornelia Radics, Director of the Regional Office for Europe of the WMO, and Matthew Cole, Scientific Officer in the Early Warning Services Unit of the Meteorological and Sectoral Services Division of the WMO.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of multi-hazard early warning systems, highlighting Armenia’s commitment under the Early Warning for All global initiative. It was noted that this area represents both a key priority on the international agenda and an important direction for strengthening the resilience of the population, communities, and infrastructure.
The modernization of the national hydrometeorological system was also addressed, with particular emphasis on the central role of the “Armhydromet” SNCO. The parties highlighted the expansion of the observation network, the enhancement of forecasting capacities, the introduction of modern technologies, and the further development of climate services.
The participants highly appreciated the support provided by the WMO in strengthening institutional capacities, delivering technical assistance, and promoting international cooperation.
Climate finance opportunities were also discussed, with emphasis on cooperation with international funding mechanisms, including the Green Climate Fund and the Adaptation Fund, to advance relevant programmes.

The parties further explored opportunities for cooperation in the context of COP17, including the possible organization of thematic events to present regional climate reports and to highlight the role of climate data in biodiversity conservation and evidence-based decision-making.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue professional consultations in order to further deepen cooperation and define priorities for the implementation of joint programmes.
It was also noted that on 17 March 2026, a workshop on the ratification of the Early Warning for All (EW4All) National Roadmap Validation Workshop was held in Yerevan. On 18 March, a partnership dialogue dedicated to the modernization of “Armhydromet” SNCO took place, with the participation of Director Levon Azizyan, representatives of the Ministry and other agencies, as well as international organizations.
