Vahe Davtyan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA, received the delegation led by Claude Gascon, Interim CEO, Head of Regional Mission and Director of Strategy and Operations of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
Armen Yesoyan, Director of the Environmental Projects Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Environment of the RA, as well as heads of the Ministry’s relevant departments also attended the meeting.
Welcoming the members of the delegation, Deputy Minister Vahe Davtyan emphasized the importance of the long-standing and effective cooperation established with the GEF, noting that it plays a significant role in the development of Armenia’s environmental policies and programmes related to biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
During the meeting, the parties discussed GEF-supported projects implemented in Armenia aimed at strengthening climate policy, protecting ecosystems, promoting sustainable land management and addressing environmental issues in the Lake Sevan basin. They also discussed opportunities for strengthening environmental management capacities and expanding international cooperation.
The parties further discussed upcoming international environmental processes and the preparatory work for COP17, emphasizing the importance of deepening cooperation and developing new initiatives.
