The panel discussion entitled “Promoting Synergy among the Rio Conventions,” held within the framework of the Yerevan Dialogue, addressed the interlinkages between international efforts to combat climate change, biodiversity loss and land degradation, as well as the need for coordinated policies.
The discussion brought together Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the RA; Kaveh Zahedi, Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Director of OCB; Erik Grigoryan, Founder and CEO of the Environment Group; as well as Luísa Braga Bianchet Energy Transition Diplomacy Analyst at the E+ Energy Transition Institute.
In his remarks, Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan noted that Armenia views biodiversity, climate change and land degradation as interconnected challenges that directly affect water resources, ecosystems, agriculture and people’s livelihoods.
Aram Meymaryan reaffirmed that Armenia, as the host country of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17), is committed to promoting an approach under which the climate, biodiversity and land management agendas do not compete with one another, but rather complement and reinforce each other.
