Another Draft for Organizing COP17 Approved

August 13, 2026

Today, the Government approved another draft related to the organization of COP17, the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity. An additional AMD 2,640,797,500 was allocated from the Government Reserve Fund for the organization of COP17.
Taking the opportunity, Minister Matevosyan spoke about the importance of the conference for Armenia.
COP17 is about two months away, and we continue to work intensively to ensure the high-level organization of this important event on the global environmental agenda in Armenia.
In October 2026, Armenia will host representatives of 196 Parties to the Convention and tens of thousands of participants from around the world. The conference will also be preceded by a Leaders’ Summit, with the participation of heads of countries, government and international organizations, within the framework of which the adoption of the “Yerevan Declaration for the Preservation of Life on Earth” is planned.
COP17 is also an important milestone for the international environmental agenda: Armenia will host the first global assessment of progress in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
For Armenia, COP17 is a unique opportunity to strengthen the country’s role in international environmental processes and present Armenia’s environmental agenda and rich biodiversity to the world.
In response, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan highlighted the importance of holding COP17 at a high level and emphasized that it is a good opportunity to further increase Armenia’s international visibility and recognition. According to the Prime Minister, 10,000–15,000 participants are expected to attend the event.
“This means that there will also be a very large influx of tourists. This is also a good opportunity for our private sector: first, to provide services and then to promote the services they provide, because people who visit Armenia once will definitely recommend it to others and will return.”
