500 Ha of New Forests By 2030

May 15, 2026

We are pleased to announce that the Environmental Project Implementation Unit (EPIU) of the Ministry of Environment of Armenia of the RA and “My Forest Armenia” NGO signed a five-year operational partnership memorandum of understanding.
The “Fueling Green Recovery in Armenia – Advancing Forest Infrastructure and Creating Sustainable Jobs for Rural Communities” project is financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
Within the framework of the project, both reforestation and pilot agroforestry systems will be implemented in Shirak Province.
Over the next four years, 500 hectares of forest will be established on community lands, with planting followed by a full year of maintenance and replanting. As always, including post-planting maintenance and replanting activities.
Planting activities are scheduled to begin in autumn 2026.
The project also includes an agroforestry component. “My Forest Armenia” NGO will implement pilot projects in selected communities, introducing systems such as windbreaks, intercropping, and silvopastoral systems.
These are practical solutions that can improve crop fields, pasture lands, and grazing methods, while increasing the overall productivity of the land.
This is particularly relevant in areas where pasture lands are overused and livestock often move into forested areas. With better grazing management and adapted systems, it is possible to improve pasture quality and reduce pressure on nearby forests.
